The Limpopo Mirror is a pioneer in many aspects. It was one of the first commercially viable “community” newspapers that catered for an almost exclusively black readership. It also set the standard for many others, with a focus on editorial integrity and an emphasis on quality content. In 2005 the Limpopo Mirror won the World Association of Newspapers’ Young Reader Award, only the second African newspaper to win this coveted award.
